Towards ensuring Quran memorisers are grounded in basic entrepreneurial, creative and character-building skills, Daarus Salam Tahfidh Int’l Academy has empowered its students with knowledge that will give them edge in the society.

The school is keen at maximising children’s ability to memorise the Holy Quran in the shortest duration possible, while ensuring long-term retention.

Speaking during the round-off of the vocational and skill acquisition programme of the school, themed, ‘Responsibility and Respect’, the school’s Manager, Abdulrafiu Oyedeji, said the training is first of its kind, as, so many believe that memorisation of the Quran should be limited to the four walls of the classroom.

“Despite the core value of the school is to learn and memorise the Quran, we also need to learn more about the environment we find ourselves in. A lot of students are not taught how to fit morally into their environment, ending up not able to fit in the community,” Oyedeji said.

He added that the school introduced the programme to prepare the students for the outside world.

“We initiated this programme, because we want our students to be morally fit when they get into the society. We want them to contribute positively to society and there is no other way we can do that other than incorporating the idea into the children, as they are learning and memorising the Quran.

“They are also being taught character-wise, an expert comes around to teach them how they are to relate with people, what they are supposed to do when they mix into the society so that they will stand out and be the best in the society while carrying the flag of Islam and being the ambassador of our religion in the world.”

He urged the Islamic community to prioritise learning and the understanding of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (SAW), as this will go a long way to curb misrepresentation and misformation about Islam.

“It is quite sad, that some unfortunate incidents were attached to Islam due to lack of knowledge. That is why at Darul, our students are well informed and enlightened with the right guidance. We sensitise them on the stand of Islam in every situation. Those Muslims that are under-representing the religion in the society lack proper knowledge of Islam and they are not making use of what they learn from the Quran and Sunnah, if not, why will a Muslim be involved in ritual killing, kidnapping and the like?”

He advised Muslim parents to train their children with the Quran and Sunnah to prevent them from following societal trend.

“When they are not well informed they might end up doing what they are not meant to do due to too much exposure to society.

“Parents should endeavour to shape the lives of their children with the Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (SAW) as learning is key. Don’t leave the teachers alone to teach your kids, complement their learning at home.”
