Keyamo denies suing Tinubu for alleged certificate forgery as Lagos governor

A spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2023 elections, Festus Keyamo, on Tuesday denied suing Bola Tinubu for certificate forgery while the latter was Lagos State governor.

“I never sued Tinubu,” Keyamo said in a statement amid backlash of defending Tinubu, whom he allegedly sought his removal from office as Lagos State governor for alleged forgery of academic documents.

“No. I sued the House of Assembly seeking an interpretation of the law.”

Keyamo, a minister of state, labour and employment was reacting to a claim by Daniel Bwala, a spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Bwala on Monday during a programme on Channels Television said Keyamo sued Tinubu during his first-term as Lagos governor for certificate forgery.

The PDP candidate’s spokesman said the APC candidate was no match for PDP and Atiku in the 2023 presidential election.

Keyamo insisted that Bwala’s claims were “battles we waged” that “were not borne out of bitterness and hate”, saying there was no Supreme Court pronouncement on the issue.

“Once the Supreme Court pronounces on an issue, it becomes binding on even the lawyer who loses and he is bound to obey and defend the judgment of the court,” Keyamo said.

“So assuming (which is not conceded) that I made any kind of accusation in the matter, once the Supreme Court ruled, that was the end of the matter and from that moment, it behoves me to stop pushing a matter already laid to rest by the highest court of the land and defend the decision.”

The minister said Nigerians will hear from “the horse’s mouth as to what actually transpired during the battle that raged then and how the matter was eventually laid to rest”.

“So, once the issue was laid to rest, we move on. Anyone who thinks I would still harbour any kind of resentment more than 20 years later should examine his/her head.”
