President of Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), Mrs. Jibe Ologeh, has said the maiden Nigeria Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA) will create a content market for the electronic media and film industry.
While unveiling NEMCEA in Lagos recently, she said, “EMCOAN, in collaboration with Broadcast Media Africa (BMA), is set to host the biggest event for the electronic media content and film industry.”
She revealed that Nigeria has no content market to cater for its ever-growing electronic media and film industry, adding that is the gap NEMCEA is trying to bridge.
Ologeh, noted that NEMCEA, which would be a yearly event, is bringing together stakeholders within and outside the country to buy, sell, collaborate, aggregate, exchange ideas on content and also bring to fore issues and perspectives bordering on the media industry in Nigeria and across Africa as a whole.
She said participation is open to all broadcast content producers and other stakeholders across media, not just television but radio, online, and moviemakers.
According to her, exhibitors, as well as content aggregators from across Africa, Europe and America, are expected to attend the event.
She disclosed, “NEMCEA will be collocating with Nigeria International Film and Television Summit (NIFS). This means that these two big events will be happening simultaneously at the same venue thereby providing industry planner omnibus opportunity to interact with various bouquet of media content from across Africa.”
Ologeh added that Creative Nigeria Summit (CNS), Zee world, Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria (BON), Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), formally APCON and StarTimes would be on the ground for the content exhibition.
Another unique feature of NEMCEA, she stressed, would be an opportunity for content producers, as well as, distributors and TV channels to exchange content by barter during the three-day event.
There is also ‘The Awards’ conceptualised to reward creativity, excellence and innovation in the electronic media content ecosystem.
‘The Awards’ Coordinator, Stephen Alayande, said objectives are to reward achievements in prime time TV/Radio and Online performances by all stakeholders; to reward content and productions that are educational, innovative, locally relevant, and reflective of African/Nigeria’s common values and cultural diversity and to reward production firms/producers whose content has been outstanding over the year(s) under consideration thereby promoting not just the actors and the content in itself but the content owners.
For Theophilus Akatugba, who is the Project Director of the event, “NEMCEA would make Lagos a centre that creative people from Nigeria, Africa and the whole world could come to find expertise, great natural beauty and scenic relevance in which to express themselves through the barrier-breaking medium of Electronic Media content.
He added that TV stations coming from all over the world would have the opportunity to meet real owners of the content they are buying.
The event is scheduled to hold at Radisson Blu Hotel, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos from August 29 to 31, 2022.
