Nigeria’s U-19 girls’ volleyball team, yesterday, recorded another defeat at the ongoing African Nations Volleyball Championship, as they lost their second consecutive match, this time to Egypt.

Egypt beat the Nigerians 22-25, 14-25, 22-25. This loss is coming on the heels of their earlier loss on Friday night to Cameroun, who won 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament.

The match, played at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saw the girls managing to win only the first set of the match by 29-27. They were unable to win the remaining sets as the Camerounians showed their supremacy.

They lost the second set 20-25, the third set 14- 25 and the fourth set 20-25.

Speaking after the match, Cameroun’s captain said they were in Abuja to retain their title as the defending champions.

“We are happy to win against Nigeria. The outcome of the match showed that we came very prepared for the championship.

“In our next match against Egypt, we will play according to our coaches’ instructions, which will also end with a victory. We will go back home with the trophy,” she said.

Nigeria, Cameroun and Egypt are the countries participating in the 2022 U-19 Africa Girls Nations Championship. The event, which started on Thursday with a technical meeting with officials, will end tomorrow, September 6.

While the girls have lost their first two games, their boys’ counterpart gave the country something to cheer when they defeated Cameroun 3-1 (26-24, 25-27, 25-15, 25-22) in their second match at the ongoing championship holding in Morocco.

Nigeria will face Tunisia in their last group stage match, which they must win to progress to the quarterfinals of the tournament.
